I have the impression that Seamonkey and Firefox are similar, with the former having the mail and Usenet tools, too. I tried to get Opera but the synaptic package manager didn't find it in a repository. Given the hard use to which this portable is put, and that the Toshiba Satellite is a low-end system a few years old now, it may be more time and cost effective to just replace it with a Lenovo with the Intel i3 processor.
