You may be right. However, even when brand new I could never get any Linux distro to mount it writable. Best I could do was read-only. (Yes, the switch was in the right position.) I only wanted it writable so that I could transfer 30+ GB of mp3s to the card that I use in my phone. Eventually I gave up and plugged the phone into a USB port on the T61. It was slow, but I only ever needed to do it once. It was when I started CPAP that I discovered that it had become completely broken and wouldn't even read SD cards. So I spent the grand sum of $2 with free shipping for an external reader that has been working fine ever since.
