Is that connecting to the local lan via the router or if the router was unplugged and put in the closet would you still be connecting to the local lan. Are you pinging using IP addresses or using names? i.e. is it a DNS problem. When I first installed tomato on my ASUS NT-12 router it had telnet open for local access. Do you maybe have telnet access? Maybe there is another router on your local lan interfering with things?
