Just as you were posting that someone on another forum that I frequent
posted more or less those instructions. He used a Toshiba Flashair and
said that it worked, except that he had to pull the files off one at a
time because it required a web interface (I don't understand this). He
was using Windows. 

The software that I use needs to be pointed to the folder where the
files are located. Normally I just insert the SD card into my laptop,
mount it, and point the software to the drive. I don't see why I
couldn't point it to a network share instead of a drive.
