I could suggest how to do it, though, starting with a light dimmer in a box. If smartmon and logging is turned on, you should see something in the logs if your hard disk was creating errors. I'm guessing it is most likely a software problem, like a memory leak using up RAM (your RAM works, but is there enough?), or a power supply problem (these wear out). But guessing is not diagnosis. And maybe this is Jahweh telling you to spend your time more productively. Be careful, that sucker smites!
