Absolutely I second this, in fact I'm typing this on an HP Elitebook that I
bought off least 2 years ago for around $300.

The one caution I'd have is don't get a giant screen. Instead buy a dock like
this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Docking-Multiport-DisplayPort-Ethernet-Charging/dp/B0BM49XNJ3

and then buy a couple of monitors like these:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Computer-1920x1080-Anti-Glare-Brightness/dp/B0BVD9YKZM/?th=1

and a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard set.

That way when you use the laptop at home at a desk you get a real nice
workstation and when you need to
Carry it on a plane or something you don't have this unwieldly screen. Also
the full size laptops with the wide
Screen are structurally harder to deal with and tend to crack at the hinge over
time.

There are several HP laptops on sale at Bestbuy, depending on your processor
needs, at $350 to $550. I have a lot of experience with the HP Elitebook at my
previous employer, and bought one for myself when I retired (AMD Ryzen 7, 16GB
ram). Get the 15in screen, then you get a full size keyboard and good
resolution.
