I don't know your keyboard, but sometimes laptops need a 'fn' key in order to send a real F1-F12 key, so try Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F3 or something like that. Or, maybe plug a usb-keyboard into a USB port and see if it works from that keyboard.
