Anna, tell me that during an interview and ... Well, you know what I'd say. I had one
applicant tell me she didn't do any programming for her 4th year group project because
she was busy singing with her choir. I really hope she's a good singer because she
sure wouldn't cut it as a programmer.

Anyhow, Linus seems to be a well rounded guy. I'd like to think I am, too. I was on a
varsity team (swimming) during my senior year and so were many of my blockmates
(fencing, rowing, soccer etc.). I went to my share of parties and got just as drunk as
the next guy. It didn't interfere with our academic growth (well, minus a few brain
cells here and there) and I don't see why it should with yours.

Now, I don't expect anyone, even BS CS grads, to be anywhere near Linux' skill level.
I DO expect them to know the basics of computing, e.g. what was taught in class the
first 3 years. That should be a bare minimum. Unfortunately, many do not even reach
that level!

I'd understand perfectly if someone claimed they didn't have time for extra-curricular
activities because of the time devoted to study. But to have things the other way
arround, extra-curricular activities taking precedence over learning? Perhaps it's
about time you reconsider what you're paying P30k a semester for.
