In my experience, and we use Mandrake 7.1 as our
office standard, your memory is too low.
16MB on a new Linux Distro of the 2.2.x kernel will
not run satisfactorily on anything less than 64mb.
(don't be a masochist, MDK 7.x distros are slow to install,
lalo na kung old hardware and low memory)
Note: 64MB is your minimum for a Linux 2.2.x Kernel Distro.
For Desktop needs
If you want your computer to just be a server (text only),
Siguro Web Server lang puwede. Go get a RedHat 6.2 distro
and install using text only.
For those old notes about 4mb only for Linux,
those were the old 1.x.x releases.
Even the 2.0.x releases don't run in so low memory.

> I'm trying to install Mandrake 7.1 to dual boot with
Win98SE but I get an error message sending a signal
7...exiting abnormally or something similar when it tries to
scan for packages. I'm installing it on a box with these
specs...
