yup reiserfs is the solution to your problem.  i've been turning off my pc
without properly shutting it down (i.e. pushing the on/off switch) since i
started using reiserfs and i haven't encountered any fs corruption.  its
also fast, since your using it as a gateway it might speed up your squid
(but not significantly enough to notice it).
