coming in and out of my linux servers automatically using mrtg. How can I
run snmp to listen to its Eth0's?

You can install any snmp client program for unix system. It will
automatically give you packets readings on all valid ports (eth0
included). Try using UCD-SNMP Package (don't know current version). Upon
installing the package, look for the snmp.conf file (use man snmpd) and
edit it. Then go to the init.d script and issue 'snmpd start'.
You can use snmpwalk or snmpget to check if the client is up and the
proper community. If your familiar with the MRTG pagkage, issue 'cfgmaker'
to check the the monitored ports.
