I always thought that

(real ram + swap) > total ram used by all running processes

So one needs to compute how many users will use the system at
the same time and approximately how much ram space each one will use,
plus add space that are used by the server processes, in order the get
the right hand side total.

For a lightly used server, I find 128MB for swap quite adequate, since
128MB swap is the max that can be supported by the older kernels.  Is
this still true?
