Well for my case, I'm using Linux as my desktop OS. I don't have to run it
(yet) on any server, so I guess this is the only thing what I'm doing with
Linux right now. And yes, it's my primary desktop OS. I only use the OS from
Redmond to play some games that's not yet ported to Linux. hehehe.
For other people, I suggest that they use Linux as their desktop OS only if
they have to spend the time to learn it. If not, stick with the other OS and
suffers BSoDs. hehehe. It's true that Linux has matured very well when it
comes to user-friendlyness compared to the first time I used it. KDE 2.x
would be good for most people. Haven't tried Ximian yet. However, even with
the ease of installation of Mandrake and the ease-of-use with KDE, people
should have time to learn the other sutff of Linux, like the command-line,
compiling the kernel, etc. Why? Well, even KDE 2.x or Ximian, you still
can't live in the Linux world without learning command-line and shell
scripts, at least the basic because those utilities included with KDE 2.x
and Ximian still requires knowledge in the command-line. Heck most people I
know that's using Windows doesn't even know what the MS-DOS prompt iss for.
And they don't have any idea what DOS is. So in short, most people don't
know what is a command-line interface, unless of course you lived your
computing days pre-Win9x and you use *NIX a lot. But I guess, if we Linux
users want people from the other side to switch to Linux or BSD or whatever,
we should also support them in their steps in learning the OS. And let them
know that there are other wonderfult things other than GUI. hehehe.
