I'm using Mandrake 8.0 and prior to installing mozilla (via rpm) 0.9.1,
I never installed netscape. I got mozilla up and running for both root
and non-root users and was then was able to get java working (pretty
much a pain also to get that done).
Yesterday I was able to get flash working. Same as you, I downloaded the
flash_linux.tar.gz. I extracted the 2 files and put them into my mozilla
plugin directory (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins for me). I then went to
www.flash.com and confirmed it was working.
