If your win2k was installed over vfat, you can install
the umsdos versions of most distributions (RedHat for
example has umsdos install). If your win2k was
installed over NTFS, you're out of luck. Linux can not
write on NTFS (it does not know how to).

Using umsdos, however, is very expensive. File read/writes
are slower, and i/o block sizes are bigger. You HD space
gets used up so quickly, and yet blocks are only partially
written.
