Just for the record, I have had Samba (version 2.0.7 thru to 2.2.0a) setup with
the interfaces and hosts settings configured and I haven't had problems,
although my clients are limited to Windows 95, 98, and ME (no NT boxes). I do
not recommend removing the interfaces and hosts parameters from the Samba
configuration of boxes connected to the Internet as well as a LAN.
To Ian: perhaps if you'd agree to e-mail me your smb.conf I may find something
that might help you out. I wouldn't recommend posting your entire smb.conf in
PLUG, but sending it to me personally would be okay (by me, anyway). We can
then share what we find after fixing it so that the entire community can
benefit. :-)
