papakabit na ko nang destiny sometime soon, and there just some stuff i wanna know para pag dating eh well prepared na ako. question(s) lang: 1.) do i need a straight through, or crossover (or plug it to the hub's "uplink" port) cable to connect the motorola cyber surfer to my hub? eh kung i recta ko to my eth0? straight oh crossover? 2.) i observed sa net cafe nang isang phrend na: pag sinaksak ang cable modem straight to the hub, yung mga PC na naka saksak to that same hub gets assigned different global IP addies, hmmm, how does destiny ba authenticate its users? through the MAC of the nic(s) or, walang authentication (as i suspect) 3.) if wala ngang authentication or, through MAC address lang na pwede namang baguhin through ifconfig, does that mean, na pag nag pakabit ako nang destiny cable TV service...tapos i attach that cable to a cable modem that i own (or stolen from another cable isp, or whatever :-) eh mag kakaroon na ako nang destiny internet, and just need to pay for cable tv fees?!?!!?!? 4.) will it be ok, if i attach nga the cable direct to the hub and let my mom's win98 machine attach straight to the hub, and i attach my slackware box to the hub? 5.) kung mag ip_masq na lang ako instead of just sticking both PCs to the hub, where the cable modem is also attached, mas ok kaya ang performance. oh well i know i will get the answers soon enough, i am just curious, and maybe some of you know this already. thanks rcd __________________________________ www.edsamail.com _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
