actually, what I wanted to find out is if the 51xx and 61xx series have
modems programmed in the phone's firmware.  sorry if I didn't make myself
clear

 both are functionally the same. however, the softmodem takes plenty of CPU
cycles compared to it's hardware brethen, and sometimes has issues with
platform availabilty (ie. nokia 51/61xx modem specs are not publicly
available, therefore 3rd party developers sometimes has to
experiment/reverse engineer it first before they can use it. unless of
course nokia issues the specs out)
