i currently have a server farm thanks to zope and zeo.
what i need now is to distribute load from the internet to the client
servers.
here is our current setup:
internet

load balancer

client_server_1 client_server_2 client_server_3

Round-robin doesn't not meet our consultants requirements. if a server goes
offline, traffic may still be sent to the offline server.
someone said to try cisco localdirector. does this need any other appliance?
do i still need a switch for this? can someone recommend specifically what
kind of the 400 series?
i need a CHEAP load balancer.
dami pala talaga nag-pro-probe ng mga servers. someone wrote to me to
welcome me to probed-server administration. :)
thanks for the assistance.

What about using DNS round robin? You can have a pool of web servers that
either get their files from a central file server via NFS, or mirror each
other by some method. DNS round robin should allow each server a
more-or-less equal chance at getting a particular bit of the load. This
should be much more economical than getting hardware to handle the load
balancing. :)
