As long as you change the serial number, whether it's an increment or
decrement as long as the new number does not exceed 10 digits long.  The
'serial number' is just a marker so that name servers know that there were
modifications done in your zone file.

Incrementing it by date, for example, is more of a style -- it is easier
to track changes when you have a serial number like 2001081501 compared
with a random number.
