No, I'm not looking for masidentd or midentd because the IRC session _is_
passing through a SOCKS5 proxy (danted in my case). Unfortunately danted
runs as the unprivileged user, which is set to nobody. A "ps ax" on the
system will show that indeed the processes are running as nobody, hence
the corrent identd reply.

I could use IP Masquerading instead and run masqidentd but somehow I'm
inclined to finding a proper SOCKS5 proxy that can run as the user and not
as nobody. But then that would need authentication and SOCKS5's
authentication is not meant to be secure but meant to help with
accounting/audit so ... haay. :)

Maybe I should just go IP Masquerading and run masqidentd. Hahaha. Anyway
it's not critical as of now.

What's more critical, I think, is the evaluation of IP Masquerading vs
SOCKS5 for the following applications:

 o ICQ
 o IRC

In particular are there operability issues when running multiple
connections through the server (ie: multiple IRC connections to the same
or different servers; multiple ICQ connections).

Anybody? :)
