yes, tomcat is a stand alone webserver, but i think 
there's no need to for you to disable apache to deploy 
jsp/servlets using tomcat - tomcat performs horrible 
when it comes to HTTP Requests (it's based on my personal 
experience though). 

tomcat and apache webserver could work hand in hand.
