Maybe /dev/hdax is mounted?

I normally make sure I have an extra partition. So say I moved my / from
/dev/hda6 to /dev/hda9, then I reboot and use /dev/hda9 as my root by
invoking something like this on the LILO prompt: "linux root=/dev/hda9".
Make sure /dev/hda9's copy of /etc/fstab is updated with /dev/hda9
properly as root. Then I mkfs.xfs /dev/hda6 and transfer the root data
back there then fix the /etc/fstab and reboot. :)
