I've heard of it; it's a dismal embarrasment. It plain doesn't work; blocking a lot of images that are not supposed to be blocked. http://www.peacefire.org has details on this. > Medyo malabo but i guess it is possible to use > this with squid and some crafty scripting for > identifying porn sites. Orly had once suggested a solution which I think might be better; create a Perl script that will at intervals get links from porn portals like Persiankitty, and use that to rebuild Squid's blocked URL's list. But seriously, the problem of stopping people in an organization from wasting its resources for frivolous and non-work-related activity (such as surfing for pornography) is an administrative problem, as my cousin realized when he started doing admin work for my uncle's company's network. Technological solutions are NEVER GOING TO BE GOOD ENOUGH, at least not in the foreseeable future. If your students are surfing for pr0n, get the administration to say that such usage of the school's resources is unacceptable and will result in punishment. Watch the squid logs every now and then; write a script that will pick out a few JPEG requests from the log at random; if anyone thinks they can get away... :) -- Rafael R.
