        Without hacking the hardware of ordinary caller id, I dont think it
is possible because a caller id has a dedicated chip that extracts the
caller's phone #. The phone # is embedded in between rings. Besides, there is
no output where you can connect your serial or parallel port.
        Hacking the hardware, it may be possible but it is not practical
because you can buy that IC from Alexan and may be cheaper than P300.  Then,
grab an application sheet and solder your circuit. Connect the output and
channel it to your parallel port (serial port will require another chip).
Then, make a small C program in linux to grab the caller's phone # 
whenever the phone rings.
        Most modems dont have caller id IC thus it is not possible to 
extract caller's phone #.
