A Pentium-100 running Linux can handle about 16000 packets per second. That's more than enough to saturate a 10Mbps LAN. So your 1.6GHz Athlon is vastly overpowered. Remember that the Cisco 7200VXR NPE-400, which is one of Cisco's higher-end routers, with a 450MHz processor, can handle 400,000 packets per second. That's already an enterprise router. Granted a Linux box is probably not as efficient as a router, but something like a 600-800MHz box should suffice. -- Orlando Andico <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mosaic Communications, Inc. _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
