Have you checked wether you have "accidentally" enabled the XMMS' echo or
reverb plugin?

Actually, there's an artsd ouput plugin for XMMS. Chances are, your distro
might have included it. Look for it at the output plugins on XMMS. If you
don't have it, you could always download it from xmms.org, and look for it
under output plugins.
I'm using XMMS with KDE, and it's fine. 'yon nga lang my sound card is SB
Live. Wether I use artsd or not, I could play multiple sound streams.
hehehe. But yers, XMMS' artsd plugin works, even when I was still using the
old SB Vibra 128, I also tried it with CMPCI and SB16, and it works.
