hindi sa pagpapahirap... Ingles muna ako p're, mahina ako sa Tagalog...
OK maybe I'm going along the wrong track, maybe it's not the individual
programmers who would find the "itch to scratch," but companies who would
use it to solve their problems... while some companies locally are proclaiming
that they are free software users, they don't realize the full benefit until
they use the source and customize it according to their needs.

'di ko alam yan, di pa ako nakapagtrabaho sa abroad... pero [OT] ganon ba??
and I thought some people say that they like working abroad coz there's less
office politics, etc.

hmmm are there Pinoys working in open source companies in the US or elsewhere?

yup I read recently about the Bangalore Linux Users Group... so PLUG better
get serious...

well that's if they're software-as-product vendors.
but what about software-as-service or system integrators?
service providers? (e.g. ISP's, telcos, data centers...)

for the latter, it's much easier to reuse free software and you can
provide commercial services using free software.

I disagree, some PLUGgers have made small hacks which are contributions to
free software... the discipline is if you want to get into the project
big-time, but if it's YOUR JOB or YOUR ACADEMIC REQUIREMENT to do it, then
you have to!

I disagree, though that's another topic altogether... there are very few
here in PLUG who run Linux exclusively...

With the open source licenses like GPL, it can't be done. With BSD, it can...

great...
though I'm personally not interested in PDA apps since I'm not a PDA user...
I like server-side apps...
but who knows, we can get the framework running for all kinds of developers.
