Once a company has gotten a taste of an open source code-based project, management soon gets into wild contortions coming up with all these "new" ideas. Open source does not only contribute to the speed of development of any project, it also does away with the endless meetings and contracts that inevitably comes with using someone else's API to implement your system.

It's not just for games mind you. As a developer, one has to keep one's mind open to find solutions for everything. For example, FreeDOS is not Linux.
