[replying to my own post - just needed to add/elaborate] When I did the 1999 (? can't remember the exact year) version of the PLUG web site - I had this in mind - in fact I posted this - pero nobody replied. Oh well. Pero IMHO, I think this is really a good idea. And in fact, having local Linux case studies would serve the community well. I see people here from Mozcom, Inter.Net, Evoserve, PLDT (codewan?), Ateneo, DLSU, UP (Diliman?/LB/Manila), BIR, yung from FHM (ano company ninyo?), Leather Collection, Q-Linux, etc. (sorry if your company/organization was not listed - it doesn't mean it's a lesser org, it just means that memory of your org escapes me. again sorry). In fact, the big three in academe (UP, Ateneo, DLSU) are here. Imagine having case studies from these organizations, detailing (or even describing in general) how Linux and Open-Source/Free software have served them well. Now a newbie comes along "What's Linux good for?" - well we say, "hey newbie, take a look at this - the first commercial ISP in RP uses Linux, as well as the big three in academe, as well as these other orgs." Or you were Q-Linux convincing a client about Linux - "Look sir, we're not the only one using Linux - all these other fine orgs are using it too. Read for yourself." Or that we decided to advise the Quezon City government to use Linux (as what Dr. Manalastas suggested) ... we can say "Sir, you can switch to Linux, it's free, it's stable - and it does work - all these fine organizations use Linux - see?" Well, anyways, this is just my suggestion and am elaborating on it 'coz I really believed that having local Linux case studies would serve the Philippine Linux community well. I hope you guys can see its' worth too. Of course WE here in PLUG knows that Linux is indeed being used and that there are tools to find out (netcraft, nmap) but wouldn't it be better if we have these case studies? Regards, -- Joshua L.
