Egad!!! I can't do a similar filesystem shuffling test right now so I hope you can do this for the sake of the community (hehehe): 1. Make sure OpenOffice is working fine with a ReiserFS /usr. 2. Convert /usr from ReiserFS to XFS. 3. Test OpenOffice on an XFS-based /usr. If OpenOffice is not working on that fresh[1] XFS partition, please send a report to the XFS mailing list[2]. And oh, if you have a copy of the XFs-enabled kernel older than 2002-01-23, you may want to download the latest patch[3] and rebuild your kernel just in case this problem was fixed by recent bugfixes commited to CVS. [1] Please make sure you use the latest xfsprogs to create that new filesystem. A bug was quashed lately, where mkfs.xfs lacked some steps when creating a new filesystem to overwrite an existing one. [2] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. You don't need to be subscribed to the list to post, and members normally reply-to-all so you'll still get replies. I'll also redirect email in the thread that are sent exclusively to the list. [3] <ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/patches/2.4.17/> When I've the time in the office I'll see if I can twiddle with one of the workstations to check out OpenOffice with various filesystems to see which breaks it and which doesn't. In the meantime, I hope you can be our knight in shining armor (hehehe).
