The output would be that of 'dd' and not of the dump process, right? How
about including the output of the dump process?

dump -0uaf - / | gzip -2 | ssh -2 -c blowfish backup.host TEE dd
of=/dev/nrsa0 dump.log &

man tee for more details.

    hey francis, freebsd 4.5-install.iso is already out and i tested it...
its performance really improve from tcp/ip stack to its filesystem.
