I've done this before using the utility that comes with KDE 2.2 (I'm not sure with older versions) called Kmail Import. It's capable of importing mailbox formats of Outlook Express 4 and 5, and also other MTAs like Eudora and Pegasus. Just mount the partition that contains the mail to be imported and point the application to the correct directory and it will import the .dbx files in individual folders renamed as OEx-foldername when you open Kmail.
