Even if one uses it under dosemu, iirc, it is not a text editor, 
like the kind we use and are talking about.
I remember classmates in programming lab class during college
who complained about not being able to compile their programs.
They had used wordstar, and it invariably produces "text" 
files that have control characters embedded in them.

Besides, using FreeDOS under DOSEmu, one has access to two
wonderful editors, vim 5.3 for DOS and Freemacs 1.6g.
Freemacs weighs in at only 884 kb, so one can also use it
as a portable editor for windows/dos.
