Though I prefer vim for most usage (in Mutt as the editor of choice) for
small and quick hacks and edits, when it comes to programming, I'll
still vote for Emacs.

Sure vim has a good feature with colored text (I used this when I was
still coding in Fortran and the red bar that flashes when I'm less than
7 spaces away from the first column is a sure help for a dumb Fortran
guy like me), what really made me like emacs for long and serious
projects was its smooth integration with the GNU tools, especially gdb.

Anyway, I'm not against any. I use both editors also (can't dispense the
other quite so easily given the power they have), though the Potato
versions can be quite behind the more recent versions...
