i tested with two windows boxes (a spare notebook running win98SE, and
a desktop running ME).  neither of them stored anything in the profiles
directory.  /var/lib/samba/profiles is empty.

thanks.  i'll try that.  i don't know if i'll understand what's
happening, but i'll look at the output, anyway :)
