Ah, but the beauty of screen is that: (a) you can bind two-keystroke commands to whatever you want. (b) you can do a _great_ deal more things with screen (c) you can shuffle your screens around without too much hassle. Say, for example, you want to change your lower split to something else, or have a three-way split, or split so that you can look at an already-running process... > And the terminal emulation isn't complete. Try running 'man screen' > inside one 'sub-terminal'... but that's nitpicking... \8) Works without a hitch here. What kind of problems do you get? > Also there's no option to call the actual commands in one command line > splitvt -upper "service named restart" -lower "tail -f /var/log/bind.log" Hmmmm. Screen should have something that allows you to execute commands in a specified session... if it's not there, that would be a nice wishlist. <g> There's a colon command that you can add to .screenrc so that you can easily bind that, but I don't see any way to invoke it from the command-line outside a screen. <diligently searches the gnu-screen yahoogroup for [command line]> ... AHA! screen -X! I learned something new today. But I still haven't figured out how to get it to execute multiple commands... <muses> However, the quick and dirty workaround I can think of is to write a shell script that accepts your upper and lower as arguments, then generates a .screenrc.split, then screen -c's it. <grin> That'd be, like, fun! -- Sacha Chua <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - 4 BS CS Ateneo geekette interests: emacs, linux, wearables, teaching compsci, making games _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
