I use a Dell Latitude CPi D300XT notebook with a Comda USB floppy drive. I just learned today how to use the drive with Linux. The magic incantations are as follows:
modprobe usb-uhci # loads USB support, the school desktops use usb-ohci # anyone knows the difference? modprobe usb-storage # the USB floppy drive may be inserted before this or after this # Now put in the floppy disk into the drive mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt That's all. The floppy disk becomes accessible under directory /mnt. By the way, under devfs, /dev/sda is really /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc which is block device 8,0. After I use the floppy (read/write to floppy), I then umount /mnt, and then I remove the USB connector. Is this proper, or am I destroying anything in my machine? I do this with USB connectors for cameras, Palm hotsync cradle, etc., and the removal process looks harmless, or is it? PMana _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
