because when LyX was first written (I've been using it since 0.10 or 
something) XForms was a very nice library to code for, Qt was already out 
but C++, and Gtk wasn't mature yet.

I did quite a bit of programming in XForms before. It was nice. Although 
now that "namulat na ako," I think Gtk, even bare Gtk (with no GNOME 
bloat) is more elegant. XForms follows the Weird Windows Way of creating 
forms with absolute positioning and sizing (so the gravity- and 
geometry-based form layout of e.g. Gtk was strange to me at first).
