in order to retain the rights/permissions, the users must have the same uid in both servers. you can use tar to compress the files and scp to transfer them. as root: tar cfvzp mail.tgz /var/spool/mail tar cfvzp home.tgz /home scp -p mail.tgz home.tgz server2:/~ then (on server2), untar tar xfvz mail.tgz -C / tar xfvz home.tgz -C / _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
