Hi there. I am strugling with rpm dependency hell and I thought I need to know how libraries are named in linux.
The application that I am trying to install requires a library called libXm.so.2 and I do not have it on my system. What I do have is a libXm.so.6.
r u sure about this? libXm.so.2 and not libXm.so.6.2?

coz dependency checks should be "equal or greater than" and not "less than"

Can I just create a link and have libXm.so.2 point to libXm.so.6?
u may try it. coz for example, libXmu.so.6 is also link to libXmu.so.6.2

Any implications in doing that? If I do that will RPM recognise the added link?

np, as long as the lib is backwards compatible.
