Yes its Motif library.

Thanks.  This has been very helpful.  Now I know the possible implications.  What I 
used before was just to link the libraries.  I did not know the implications but I 
must admit they sort of worked.  This time though what I did was just to install the 
missing shared library alongside the library with the higher major version number.  A 
site on the Net informed me that it is okey for shared libraries with different major 
version numbers to coexist.

Also learned that so stands for shared object.
