That's why I said it's "the closest thing to systemwide", as opposed to
_being_ systemwide.

No, I thought of citing that, but then thought "What the heck, the point
is that doing 'alias' affects only the current shell", and decided not
to belabour the other stuff.  Which underlines the fact that this
side-discussion is digressing from the point.
