oddly enough, i have had no problems whatsoever..

it's probably a driver issue. perhaps you are using an nvidia card with 
the closed source drivers? rh8 comes with a gcc3.2-compiled kernel. it has 
weird interactions with kernel binary modules that are compiled by 
gcc2.95-2.

i rebuilt my rh8 kernel with gcc2.95-2 and all my instability problems 
went away.

OTOH nvidia released drivers compiled with gcc3.2 which also solved the 
problem, albeit belatedly.
