hmm. that's weird. i would say "hardware related" but if other linux 
distros work on it fine.. then it's obviously redhat's fault!

i would compile a stock "linus" kernel and see if that stabilises things. 
i'm not a huge fan of redhat's "excessively customised alan cox kernels" 
actually..

see above. it's never happened to me. maybe you have an unstable sound 
card? i'm personally condemned to gcc2.95-2 kernels forever because my 
sound card is made by a defunct manufacturer and has binary-only modules.

ahh the troubles of closed source.  :P
