Firebird has "64-bit I/O" Linux versions,
http://www.ibphoenix.com/main.nfs?a=ibphoenix&page=ibp_download#100 ,
that are supposed to allow you to have a single database file bigger
that 2GB. Which kernel version did this feature start to become
available and how does one enable it?

I presume this is available under ext2/3fs? What is the
new maximum file size?
