For me, the best typesetting software, specially for typesetting
material that contains some (or a lot of) mathematics, is TeX, or if you
are not so much of a purist, LaTeX.  Nothing can match the beauty of
a page typeset using TeX.  And nothing can match the programmability
and total user control provided by TeX.  Now, if you like to point and
click, then TeX is not for you.  But if you like to write your typesetting
commands using a programming language, then TeX is definitely your kind
of ball.
