Hello Tiger,

I missed to answer you this part of your message. I believe you know
how to use the urpmi related tools. You may want to check
http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/urpmiweb.php for easy urpmi setup for your
machines directly to other mirror sites.

If you want to host your own urpmized mirror site for your entire LAN,
you can use the urpmi.setup and urpmi.setup-web tools. Just do the
following commands from your machine:

# urpmi urpmi.setup urpmi.setup-web

I don't recommend you to do a "urpmi.update" using cron jobs. Much
better you subscribe to the "announce" and/or "exploits" mailing lists
at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/mlist.php and whenever you receive
mails from those mailing lists, that's the time you run your
"urpmi.update" tool.

One last tip, you may want to make a simple script that contains the
following:

#!/bin/bash
urpmi.update updates && urpmi --media updates --auto-select

I personally named it as "/usr/sbin/update-packages".

Good luck!  =)
