i suggest you use the stable tree first before you venture into
testing and/or unstable trees.  you can, however, combine
testing/unstable packages even if you're using the stable tree.

don't be frustrated with debian.  it's dselect that's frustrating
--use apt instead.

you'll love apt once you get the hang of it.
