hi! forgot root password on redhat 7.3 1. i used the install disk to boot the server and chose "linux rescue", my linux fs was mounted to /mnt/sysimage then i typed "chroot /mnt/sysimage" then typed "passwd root" and set a new password. i reboot the system but still the new password is not being accepted.
2. i went back to linux rescue again, removed the "encrypted text" from /etc/shadow, save the file, reboot, i typed root at the login prompt but the system prompts me for login again and again.
